Disney+ India: Disney+ to launch in India through Hotstar on March 29

The hotstar, which has been taken over by Disney, which has set a record in worldwide streaming, is going to be very busy for the next few months. Hotstar, through Disney+ India, is planning an on-demand streaming service plus on March 29th, The company said on tuesday.
In an earning call with analysts, Disney+ chief executive Bob Iger said the entertainment union will launch the service in one the world's largest entertainment markets at the start of next edition of the IPL cricket tournament,the most noteworthy event on Hotstar all year. He also revealed that Disney+ had amassed 26.5 million paying subscribers worldwide.
With Hotstar and Disney Plus bundled together, the company hopes to take on the competition from existing players in the country's streaming market, particularly Netflix and Amazon Prime, who have already established a wide variety of Indian content on their platforms.
The streaming service also faces competition with domestic players such as ALTBalaji, Zee5, Eros Now, Sony Liv, and Voot. During the earnings call, Iger also announced that Disney Plus has so far amassed 28.6 million paid subscribers after its debut in the US on November 12, 2019. Besides India, Disney Plus is also set for rollout in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland on March 24.
