Fortnite is Finally Available on the Google Play Store By Epic Games

Fortnite is the world’s most popular battle royale game, developed by Epic Games. In it, players drop into a map, either on their own or with a team, alongside 99 other players. After landing, it’s a mad dash to pick up as many weapons and items as possible, all while working your way toward the center of the map. Whoever is the last player standing wins the match.

Unlike traditional multiplayer games, Fortnite only has a single, large map for any particular season. At the early points in the game, you’re unlikely to encounter that many players, in fact. However, as the game progresses, there’s a ring that slowly closes toward a central point on the map. If you’re caught outside the ring, your character will die.

Fortnite is similar to games like PUBG and Apex Legends in its format. However, it has one unique feature. In Fortnite, your character can build structures as you go. That allows you to set traps, build forts, and create cover during the game. Unlike other battle royale games, you’ll need to master shooting and building to be successful at Fortnite.

Fortnite is Finally Available on the Google Play Store

Close to two years after its official launching on mobile, Fortnite has found its way to the Google Play Store at last. The hit battle royale game was previously only available to download from the Epic Games website. The developer was strictly opposed to the idea of Google taking a abrupt 30% cut out of all in-app purchases until today. But, it has now surrendered and made Fortnite accessible to all via the Play Store.

“Google puts software downloadable outside of Google Play at a disadvantage, through technical and business measures such as scary, repetitive security pop-ups for downloaded and updated software, restrictive manufacturer and carrier agreements and dealings, Google public relations characterizing third party software sources as malware, and new efforts such as Google Play Protect to outright block software obtained outside the Google Play store,” an Epic Games spokesperson said in a statement. “Because of this, we’ve launched Fortnite for Android on the Google Play Store.”

Fortnite being made available via the Play Store is a compromise and Epic Games isn’t particularly happy about its decision. The company says that they were hit by a recent realization about how Google puts apps not available on its app marketplace at a huge disadvantage. It warns users of potential security dangers, though there may be none, along with blocking app installations from outside the Play Store. To put these fears to an end and reach an even wider audience, Fortnite is now finally available to download from the Google Play Store.
